Telescopes
From the moment that men and women first looked up and noticed the bright stars in the night sky, they have been fascinated by the mysteries of space. People have used stars to navigate by and have looked to them as gateways to the heavens. In more recent history, we have even started traveling to this new frontier in an attempt to discover all the wonders it may contain. Those of us who are confined to earth are not able to see the stars quite as up close and personal as astronauts are; however, with the use of telescopes we are able to get amazing and sometimes astonishing views.
Astronomy telescopes give users an awe inspiring glimpse into the universe that surrounds us. Using these items, first time star gazers as well as seasoned astronomers can easily identify different planets and moons. These products are offered in a variety of different sizes and styles. Some models are quite heavy and are best for those who like to view the heavens from one location. For those who enjoy using their telescope in the open air of a field or atop a mountain, there are also lighter and more transportable models available.
Space telescopes are not for the novice star gazer. These amazing devices are actually launched into space and orbit the earth while photographing and transmitting information regarding things such as planetary movement and meteorological readouts. These scopes are monitored and controlled from earth by a team of well-trained astronomers and scientists. Since space telescopes orbit outside the earth’s atmosphere, they can capture images with virtually no interference from background lights. This means that we get amazingly sharp images beyond anything we are able to capture from earth. The Hubble telescope is probably the most famous example of a space telescope.
If you have already purchased a telescope, but which to further enhance your star gazing experience, there are a number of accessories available to help you do just that. A mount is one of the most commonly purchased and most necessary accessories available. When selecting the proper mount for your device, make sure that it can accommodate the weight of your telescope. You may also want a mount with adjustable legs so that you can easily adjust the height from which you view the sky. Another popular accessory is the eyepiece. These are available in a wide variety of sizes and can have an important impact on the magnification of your image. Generally speaking, serious star gazers should not purchase an eyepiece shorter than 1.25 inches in length.
